My Aunt Jessie's birth registration. I don't have her birth certificate - only a photocopy of the registration of her birth. I doubt it has scanned well being, I guess reduced in size to 25% of the original, hand written and rather faded being 125 years old!
However, I can clarify the entry which is the lower one (No 504) of the three on the page which is titled 1883 Births in the DISTRICT of St GEORGE in the CITY of EDINBURGH.
The first column is blank.
The second is the Registration No (504).
The third is name of baby (Jessie Silverston)
The fourth is the date and place of birth (1883 March Fifth (?) 7.30 am at 5 West End Place, Edinburgh.
The fifth is the name, rank or profession of father; name and maiden name of the mother, and date and place of marriage:- Meir Neitin Silverston, Rubber Maker. Clara Silverston (Ms C Rigwoski). 1881 October 15th. Calvarei, Poland
The sixth is the sex of the baby (F)
The seventh is signature of the informant - the rest is difficult to read. But my grandfather has signed his name in clear, copperplate English script. He was present at the birth.
The last column indicates when and where the birth was registered and the signature of the Registrar (Angus Matheson - a good Scottish name!)
